Janhvi Kapoor has been keeping it real ever since she stepped into the Hindi film industry. The 23-year-old actress, who is still establishing her filmy clout, has once again proven just why we love her. In a photo posted with her fitness instructor and close friend, Namrata Purohit, back when she was vacationing in the Maldives, you can clearly spot the actress flaunting her cellulite. Guess what? We love that! Since celebrity culture is assumed to come with a dash of photoshop, we appreciate the honesty and the effort.

Why we need to normalize cellulite
So what exactly is cellulite? It is caused by the buildup of fat underneath the skin. Some women are more prone to it while there are a number of contributing reasons why this happens. An article by Julissa Trevino for Repeller.com, an American lifestyle platform, argues that nearly 98% of women have cellulite. It appears post-puberty and usually intensifies with age. If the statistics point to such a high number, why are we still so ashamed by it?

The answer lies in the stigma. Any feature that does not fit the toxic standards propagated by the consumer beauty industry has often been demonised. Cellulite being one of them. Hence, we feel like we should not have it, or that it’s gross. However, this is the thought that needs changing! Everyone is beautiful and way more than the industry reduces them to be. Since Janhvi is constantly in the limelight and the need to look flawless is the basic KRA of the job, it’s nice to see that the young actress is taking a stand since photoshop is just a click away.
The international league
While Bollywood celebrities like Malaika Arora and Zareen Khan have often flaunted their stretch marks proudly on social media and otherwise, it seems like the conversation around normalizing cellulite is more of an international one at the moment. Hollywood celebrities like model Ashley Graham, Chrissy Teigen and actress Hilary Duff have often spoken and posted their own journeys with cellulite.

It’s good to see the Roohi actress setting a good example by keeping her photos unedited and truly, enjoying her body. It’s time we smashed the beauty standards!
