When was the last time we stepped out? Not to get essentials or groceries, but otherwise? Well, we all have lost the count of days, to be honest. After a tiring and mind-numbing work from home schedule, what we all crave is some fresh air. But, with the rise in the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases, many people are wondering if they can go out for a walk to beat anxiety and stress. Yes, one can certainly do so but with the necessary precautions. It will also depend on the area one lives in and the time one opts to take a walk. Also, remember that people who fall under the ‘high-risk category,’ like the ones with diabetes, heart disease, or any other ailment should completely avoid going out for a walk.

Follow the social distancing norms

Don’t hug or shake hands when you accidentally meet someone you know while taking a walk. Maintain a safe distance from people while walking. If you think that the place where you walk is getting crowded then change your location. Take a walk where there are fewer people. After all, your only aim to step out of the house was to get some fresh air. So, stick to the purpose.

Avoid going for evening walks when it’s relatively more crowded. After a stressful work from home schedule, you crave some fresh air and that’s exactly when most people step out. Try going early in the morning when there will be fewer people.

Identify the red flags

If your area is under the red zone, you should not consider going out unless it is absolutely necessary. A little boredom is better than putting your health at risk. Instead, try to work out in your living room. If your building premises is surrounded by sufficient greenery you may consider stepping out.

Do not touch any surface

If you are out for a walk then avoid touching any surfaces as that can be the mode of transmission of coronavirus. Sanitize all the objects you come in contact with. Likewise, avoid touching your face when you are outside. And of course, wash your hands immediately after you get home.

Cover your face

Even if you’re going out for a walk in your premises, wear a mask that covers your nose and mouth. This will not allow any particles to enter your nose thus preventing you from contracting the virus.

No meeting your friends

Lastly, this is not the time to catch up with your friends and chit-chat. Avoid being a part of large groups. A solo walk is all you may need. Keep a safe distance from strangers.
