Aamir Khan’s daughter Ira Khan has always been vocal about her struggles with mental health. Ira who was recently spotted at her cousin Zayn Khan’s wedding in Alibaug shared a nine-minute-long video stating how she’s been struggling to put up a smiling face for the camera and look happy, while struggling with depression.
Ira shared the post with a trigger warning in the caption, “Hello again FT. Wiza TRIGGER WARNING: It’s not a happy, positive video. It’s not an unhappy, negative video either. But I’m… blah, and if you’re low, it may or may not be the best thing to watch. You be the judge. And clearly, I mumble. A lot. Will be more conscious next time (sic).”

Stressing about how she suppressed her real feelings at the wedding even though she was happy for the couple, and how she strived to smile for pictures, Ira said, “I can be seen smiling in all the wedding photos… but I hit a burn out. And I didn’t have enough time to deal with my burn out. So, I would work and work and work, come home and cry and then wake up and rush to work. I would come home and cry.”
She further said, “I wanted to be part of the wedding. I didn’t want to just be in bed and cry. But I slept a lot. Feel bad for not being as involved as I wanted to be… I can be happy for their wedding and still feel like absolute c***, “I am okay but I’m also crying a lot (sic).”
Ira has been battling depression for the past four years now. Last year, on World Mental Health she posted: “Hi, I’m depressed. I’ve been to a doctor and I’m clinically depressed. I’m doing much better now. For over a year now, I wanted to do something for mental health, but I wasn’t sure what to do. So, I have decided to take you on a journey, my journey, and see what happens. Hopefully, we will get to know ourselves slightly better, understand mental illness better (sic).”
Depression is a serious health condition and doesn’t necessarily reflect on a person’s face. It may be evident through their mannerisms, but most of us are not observant enough to pick them up. It’s definitely much more layered than just looking sad or crying. So next time, reserve your judgment in case you are privy to the person’s internal struggles and mental health condition.
