Letting go of everything and going all over the world for a vacation is the dream, but we neither have the time nor the money to indulge our passions in an expensive trip around the globe. While holidaying may be the best way to unwind and let out all the pent-up steam, the next best way to really relax, refresh, and restart is a stay-at-home vacation or what is now popularly known as a ‘staycation’. The next time you get a longer weekend to yourself, or you’re driven to the extent of taking a random casual leave for no good reason try doing a staycation. Here’s how you should go about doing it.
1. Spring clean a day before
Before you make plans to holiday at home, spring clean your house a day before so you have no chores to do on the day. Add a few extra elements like fragrance diffusers, fresh flowers, plants, and so on for an added effect.
2. Turn off all your gadgets
Turn off anything that runs on battery, and is likely to disturb you at any given time. If you have work left to do, or mails left to send do it all a day in advance or early in the morning, and switch everything off thereafter. Stay away from any screens, as far as possible.
3. Order food in
The point of a staycation is to relax and not think of anything that takes work to do. And that includes cooking, and doing the dishes. Unless cooking is therapeutic for you, ditch the kitchen completely and order comfort food in to enjoy it by yourself, or with your beau/BFF/pet.
4. Binge-read whatever you can get your hands on
If there’s a book you’ve been flaking on but are dying to read, now is the time to spring into action and get to the cosiest nook you can find, and read away to glory.
5. Meditate, do yoga, or exercise.
If you have the day, or days to yourself, this is the best time to do some self reflective meditation and yoga, or just stretch your muscles and exercise. Try kicking off your staycation with a healthy start with one of these.
6. Call a beautician home
Pamper yourself no end because this is your day. Call a beautician, or a masseuse, home and indulge in some self-love.
7. Exploit your bath tub or shower
It goes without saying that to start fresh you need to keep yourself clean. But, instead of your simple regular shower take some time out, and take a nice long soak with salts and essential oils if you have a bath tub. Or do a thorough scrub, and deep condition your hair while you take a lengthy shower.
8. Take a walk around your locality
While we may know enough about our locality to survive, we often ignore the little, sometimes special, aspects of it. This time, for a change, take a walk around your locality and go exploring.
9. Watch an old classic or a feel good film
While we advise you to stay away from screens, if you really must, avoid the tiring binge and instead, try watching a feel good film or a cult classic you’ve been meaning to watch since forever.
10. Do absolutely NOTHING
The fact that you’re exhausted enough to consider a staycation is reason enough to believe that you deserve a do-nothing day. Just sitting by yourself at the balcony or by a window sipping coffee, and daydreaming is relaxing enough and will truly help you rejuvenate and bust all that pent-up stress.
