Who doesn’t like to enjoy a game show with the family, or a rom-com with the better half on the Television? After all, that’s the cheapest and the most convenient medium of entertainment, information, and in the present times also education! In spite of all these benefits, TV viewing in the long run can prove to be detrimental for your eyes and body. And let’s face it, deep down even you know this discomforting fact! However, the ill-effects of TV viewing can be minimised to a great extent. All you have to do is to have a knowledge bite (and give it due consideration) on how not to watch television!
1. In a Slouched Posture
While it seems to be a general favourite, this posture will eventually do you more harm than good. Not only will it cause back problems, but can also put strain on your shoulders. While it is all still manageable for adults, this problem may become chronic in children if not corrected at an early age.
2. Without Taking Brief Breaks
Continued TV viewing puts considerably more strain on eyes than when viewed with small intervals. So, while watching the latest movie, get up from your seat every time a commercial break pops up. This will also help maintain a healthy blood circulation in your body.
3. In Dim Light
Dim lights, a cosy couch and you and your soul mate watching a romantic movie sipping on that fine wine! Isn’t that your idea of a charming evening? Well, no matter how fancy it seems, this should not be your preferred way of watching TV. It is extremely important to have the appropriate amount lighting so that your eyes are relaxed at all times.
4. Sitting Close to The TV Set
Yes, that the most exciting football match that you’ve ever seen! But, no it doesn’t mean you can virtually get into the TV set to watch it. Always ensure a minimum distance of 8-10 feet from the screen, and while you practice it, don’t forget to preach your little ones too!
5. With a Glare on the Screen
Note that there is no obstructing glare on your TV screen, because not only will it become a constant source of irritation while viewing, it will also result in continual strain on your eyes. And to your utter dismay, might also become a cause of intermittent headaches. In order to avoid this displeasing situation, try to put your TV screen at an angle of 90 degrees from any source of light.
6. With a Lack of Sleep
In case you haven’t had a good night’s sleep, it is not advisable for you to watch television. Simply because, your eyes are already more than just stressed due to the lack of appropriate sleep, and watching television will only put more strain on them!
7. On a Particularly Small Screen
Remember that a smaller TV screen is likely to put an extreme amount of stress on your eyes! Or simply put, the bigger the better. So, instead of jeopardizing your eyesight, why not get a bigger screen for a better, more relaxed TV viewing experience?
