Mental health issues are gaining quite a momentum these days with influential people bringing light to the issues that are considered taboo to talk about in the Indian society.
One such survey was conducted this Mental Health Day by ITC Fiama in collaboration with NeilsenIQ. This is their second consecutive Mental Well being study and the results are concerning, to say the least.
The survey was designed to study the cause of stress in Indian youth with changing lifestyles.
Around the world, young individuals are attempting to change their lifestyles by putting mental wellness first. Although this active conversation about managing stress and anxiety in daily life is a healthy sign, the pressures of managing social media satiation continue to have an impact on the emotional and social health of both Gen Z and Millennial.
More about the survey…
According to the ITC Fiama and NeilsenIQ survey, relationships and breakups are the largest sources of stress for Gen Z, while work being the biggest stressor for Millennials.
The survey has concluded that work, relationship and social media are the three major causes of stress for Indian youth. While 81% of millennials consider work and career decisions the biggest reason behind their stress, 87% of Gen Z blames it on relationships.
The study also highlights that 66% of Gen Z have taken a social media detox to cope with their mental well being while 39% of millennial’s mention that social media is a major cause of stress.
The ITC Fiama and NeilsenIQ survey highlights the differences not only between the two generations but also between genders. It demonstrates that women experience more stress from their jobs and relationships than men do.
But what are they doing about it?
Despite the fact that different aspects stress out different generations and genders, according to the report, only 33% of Gen Z members are willing to seek immediate professional assistance if they experience mental health problems. However, 43% of them turn to soothing music to calm their nerves.
Millennials on the other hand try to indulge in healthy experiences like yoga, meditation or simply just spending some quality time with their fam or loved ones.
What is ITC doing to help everyone?
Memes are a way of life these days and have been used as an effective stress reliever for many.
To help with the stigma of mental well being and therapy ITC Fiama has come up with a unique initiative called ‘Feel good with Fiama’. They have released a series of meme videos on World Mental Health day.
The ITC Fiama campaign aims to reach out to everyone to motivate them to have positive and healthy conversations relating to mental health and consider therapy in a lighter and funny way.
ITC Fiama transforms classic and famous memes into real events, with protagonists urging everyone to recognize the importance of mental health and reach out to an expert in case they need help.
Always remember that your mental health comes first and it’s absolutely okay to not be okay.
Talking to a professional, helps in more ways than one and if you’re someone who is looking for a professionally qualified therapist consultation then you can get them here at an affordable fee, register at the MINDS Foundation.
