From Flab To Fit Story: How Sara Ali Khan Lost Over 30 Kgs

We’ve heard about Bollywood celebrities putting on weight for a role. Sara Ali Khan is different, she opted to lose weight for 

Before Sara Ali Khan joined the film industry, she weighed a whopping 96kgs, having piled on the pounds while studying at Columbia University. On her own admission, she revealed that she used to snack on a diet of pizza, chocolate and ice cream in that order. On Koffee With Karan where she appeared that she suffers from PCOS which made it harder to lose all that weight. Despite this, Sara decided to undertake a weight-loss transformation to look her best.

So how did Sara lose all those kgs without going on a crash diet, opting for surgery and more? 

Speaking to a leading daily Sara revealed, “It took me about a year-and-half to lose that weight. So, I completed the remaining two years of my graduation in a year so that I can return and start working early. I was always a chubby girl, but after going to the States, for the first two years, I put on a lot of weight and then last year, I burned all those kilos there itself. I was a regular kid. It made it very hard for me to a) lose weight and b) the hormone level was very high. So, as you can see, there is a level of delusion that was in me…I was confident, I was delusional.” 

It took disciplined fitness and diet routine

Sara also revealed it was hard to maintain food discipline in the States as she would see chocolates where salads were sold, and pizza when she wanted to get some protein. However it was her sheer willpower that helped her conquer her diet. Going to the gym took sheer grit on her end. 

Speaking to a leading portal, she said, “I remember saying ‘you know what I am going to do it’ and I went to the gym and did 3 crunches with a weighted ball in my hand and I couldn’t do more because I was heavy and I was not fit. I left the gym and came home and said that ‘you know what, I don’t know if I can do this. Maybe I can’t’. I woke up the next day and went back to the gym and did 4 crunches and then I did 5 and then I did 6 and I really don’t need to boast but I am down for a crunch challenge right now. I did a lot of abs this morning.”

Sara relies on pilates to improve her flexibility and confesses it’s her favourite form of exercise. She also practices yoga, kathak and hits the gym which incorporates cardio and weight training. 

What she eats

Sara confesses that her diet is pretty sad, she does not consume any form of sugar, carbs or even milk. She tends to eat a lot of protein in the form of eggs and chicken and snacks on cucumber sticks and low fat greek yoghurt with protein powder and a pinch of coffee that she considers her dessert. 

But let’s face it, this is a diet that works for her and considering every bit of her body is filmed and photographed, and she needs to have her energy levels high for long shoots, this is what she needs to do.
