Meet actress Tanishaa Mukerji, Kajol’s baby sister, who was last seen on two reality shows – Bigg Boss 7 and Khatron Ke Khiladi 7 – who sure knows how to live a healthy and stress-free life. Even when she was in the Bigg Boss house, she would spend hours on the treadmill because fitness, for her, is a passion. We recently spoke to this beautiful actress, who’s currently busy producing her own movie (and chilling like a boss!), and she shared the secrets to a healthy and happy life with us.

How do you begin your day?

I am a morning person. I love waking up early and starting my day on a fresh note. The first thing that I have after waking up is a glass of warm water with lime. It pushes the toxins out from my body and keeps me hydrated. I spend some time doing yoga before starting with the day’s routine.

What is your fitness routine?

I do an intense one-hour workout every day. I alternate between cardio, weight training and Pilates. I also briskly walk, jog and cycle. I also do yoga when I am travelling, as it becomes difficult to hit the gym. So, my exercise routine varies and I like to keep it that way. The change keeps me excited about working out and doesn’t let boredom set in. I also enjoy doing Pilates with my trainer Namrata Purohit. It’s one exercise which keeps me motivated to stay fit and strong.

Tell us about your diet.

I stay away from all fad diets. I believe in eating everything I like, but in moderation. I also think that everything you eat needs to be worked off with the right amount of exercise. So I try and eat healthy and stay away from fried, fatty and processed foods.

My breakfast consists of two egg whites along with a slice of brown bread and a cup of green tea or coffee. For lunch, I prefer a proper meal of yellow dal, green vegetables such as French beans, bhindi or peas along with a bowl of curd and two rotis. Sometimes I also have a bowl of vegetable salad. This keeps me full till the evening. Then, if I am hungry, I snack on some dry fruits or nuts. If I am working out, I have a protein shake.

I prefer to eat a light dinner, which usually consists of grilled fish or chicken with some veggies on the side. Chocolate is my weakness and my cheat days are all about chocolate in any form! I also love sev puri and literally crave this street food. So, on cheat days this is totally on the menu!

What is the one thing that you wish you could tell your younger self?

You are not as fat as think you are. This is the one thing I would have loved to tell my younger self. I remember stressing over my weight and starving too, when I was younger.

How do you unwind?

I love relaxing at home, playing with my dogs, catching up with close friends, reading a good book or just twirling to some fun music. When I am really stressed, light liquids and a strong cup of coffee are two things that work like magic for me. But what makes me instantly happy is spending time with my nieces and nephews and getting cute hugs from them. They just manage to cheer me up even in my worst moods.

What’s your mantra for a healthy, happy life?

I truly believe that fitness should be a part of your life, just like prayer. To be truly happy one needs to be healthy from inside out and that is only possible once you make some changes in the way you live. So eat healthy, exercise daily, drink a lot of water and sleep well. These basic things will take you a long way in life.
