Basu has been married for five years, and ever since then she’s been battling pregnancy-related speculations every time she puts on weight. In a recent interview with the Hindustan Times, the actor opened up about how she’s tired of explaining each time.
“My family life is extremely important to me. And I know there have been a lot of speculations about me being pregnant, on and off when I put on weight. I am allowed to gain weight, irrespective of my position in the glamour industry.”

She further said, “I know that I’m an ambassador of fitness. But there is a time when I can let go a little bit and live life a little bit. It is not that I’m becoming unhealthy. But the speculations are always going to be there till the time people see me with an actual baby. They are wishing for a family for me, and it is a sweet thought. If that’s supposed to happen, it will happen. The constant scrutiny doesn’t bother me. They’re not saying something evil about me. It’s just that I’m not pregnant, so that’s sad.”

The Alone actress also stressed on how she’s on a break due to the pandemic, “I have not done anything for a long time. That has been a personal choice. Corona definitely had put a little bit of halt in my head. I didn’t want to take any unnecessary risks. So I was not even listening or reading any scripts. But now I’m pretty open to it.”
Post-marriage weight gain doesn’t equal pregnancy

We are conditioned to believe that if a woman puts on weight after marriage she is pregnant. It’s sad how a married woman’s body is always under scrutiny with people expecting her to produce babies and subject her to an overdose of unsolicited advice. A woman has the right to lose or gain weight according to her will.
Also, contrary to the rumour we all heard as teenagers, sex doesn’t make you gain weight. Research has revealed that couples who feel secure, loved and are genuinely happy are more likely to gain weight after marriage, and it’s got nothing to do with pregnancy.
