Owing to the pandemic, many Indians moved back with their families for various reasons, Bhumi Pednekar is one of them. The star recently appeared on No Filter With Neha, Neha Dhupia’s podcast, where she spoke about living with her family.
When Bhumi moved back home
Bhumi moved out of her parents’ house back in 2016, while shooting for Dum Laga Ke Haisha, her big break. Now Bhumi is back home and says that it’s affecting all of them. She said: “It’s a madhouse. My house is a mad house because we literally like including my help, Nimisha, my sister, my mum, we are like six women in our house. We all get our period together, so the hormones are bloody raging like it’s mad. And we have like this one sweet boy called Ram Bhaiya, he toh loses it. He is like where am I stuck. So we’ve literally marked the date, I tell them, “Ok, guys you are losing your shit. What date is it? Mark it!” And I’m like, if I’m allowed to go crazy so are they right. Everyone’s allowed to like having their space. You know like, let it flow. (sic)”
Does period syncing really happen?
We’ve all felt that our period cycles have synced with our sisters or our BFFs, however, research says this is actually not true. Oxford University and period tracker app Clue conducted a survey to test if period syncing did occur, where 1500 women were in close proximity to each other and none of their cycles synced.
A 2006 research study on 186 women in a dorm in China showed that they too didn’t have any of their menstruation cycles synced.
If the menstrual cycle is 28 days long, by chance alone, one would expect two or more women to be 7 days apart. Given that a menstruation cycle lasts 5 days, overlapping periods are a common occurrence, and just pure chance.
Your period also doesn’t sync with the moon, another popular theory. There is no relation between the uterus and the moon, simply put.
What has been proven is that Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is real and it causes mood swings and irritability. That coupled with not being able to go out owing to the pandemic, may have contributed to the feelings of unrest in the Pednekar household. Haven’t we all been there.
