Motivate yourself to shed the extra pounds after Diwali.
Diwali festivities are over and you are a few kilos heavier. Not surprising, eh! With all the Diwali madness surrounding calorific mithais, ghee-laden namkeens and endless bingeing sessions, it’s time to get back to shedding those extra pounds. If you are wondering how to go about losing the post-Diwali weight gain, then you must look at these strategies to get back on track fast.
- To see the weighing scale drop back to pre-festive mode, then you must cut down on sugar and salt.
- Limit the intake of grain produce to just 3 to 4 servings per day; your grain servings should come from multigrain chapaatis, bhakri, oats, quinoa, amaranth, nachni and brown rice i.e. unprocessed and unpolished produce.
- Eat at least 4 servings of veggies a day in the form of soups, salads, stir fried veggies from a variety of coloured vegetables.
- Up your intake of fruits especially from the citrus family and high fibre variety – oranges, sweet lime, guavas and papaya are all good choices.
- If water retention is a problem, then include bananas, boiled or steamed potatoes and coconut water in your daily diet.
- Protein and healthy fats must form part of a good diet, healthy options are nuts and oils from nuts and seeds, skim milk and its products, pulses and lentils, tofu and white meats.
- In the exercise department, focus on high intensity and high energy workouts (depending on age and fitness levels) and 3 to 5 days a week.
- A weekly deep tissue massage session should help recovery and reduce excess body fluid accumulation.
It would help to remember that fitness is a lifestyle choice and not a weight gain/weight loss event! 🙂
