The H1N1 virus is spreading across the country and how! With the number of cases going up by the day, many states are struggling to cope with this swine flu attack. Even though there are regular Ebola and H1N1 checks done at the airport on people coming in from other countries, looks like the virus has already sneaked in. The scary news is that experts are expecting the virus to peak in the next few days with more than 1,000 more cases in the pipeline. *shudders* The good news, however, is that you can prevent swine flu from getting to you with a few simple tips. Don’t ignore these seven everyday healthy habits.

Avoid close contact: If someone happens to be sick around you, try not to be in very close proximity with them. Maintain a distance and make sure you not to share any food or liquids with them.

Stay home: If you are feeling unwell or are down with a cough or common cold, take the day off from work and stay indoors. It’s better not to spread the germs, or contract some more yourself.

Wash your hands: Keeping your hands clean at all times will prevent germs from entering your system. If you can’t keep washing your hands, carry an alcohol-based sanitiser in your bag that you can use at regular intervals.

Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth: Germs get into the body through the eyes, nose and mouth, so avoid touching them frequently. Always wash your hands or sanitise them before touching these parts.

Good health habits: Regular hygiene is a must especially at times such as these. With a healthy diet and exercise, you can keep your immunity levels high, and fight the infection.

Cover your nose and mouth: Make sure that you cover your mouth and nose when sneezing to prevent germs from spreading. Also if someone around you is unwell and is constantly sneezing or coughing, you should cover your mouth and nose too.

Visit the doctor: If you are sick with a flu-like illness for more than 24 hours and the fever refuses to go, visit a doctor immediately for medical care. If your immune system is down, then the H1N1 virus can attack you easily.
