Considering how much the world is raving about body-positivity, fitness and being in the best shape of your life, awareness about food is still extremely low. People continue to be ill-informed about the different nutrients in the things they eat and follow the same “salad and grilled chicken” diet that they always have. However, there are foods other than grapefruit that are actually healthy, but get a bad rep and are often perceived as unhealthy, because they contain “too many” calories. To us, however, having a healthy body, good skin and balanced system, is more important than being thin. Even according to the general definition of things, that is healthier. So, here we list 6 such foods (and drinks) that you should stop considering unhealthy!
Bananas
Bananas can improve your mood, clear your acne, make your hair shiny and cool your stomach. Yet, your massis and auntys will loudly proclaim that they are so “fattening yaar” and recommend that you skip them while trying to lose weight. Our advice? Bananas are too full of nutrients to be thrown out of your diet, so eat them, work off the calories and be happy!
Red Wine
Have you noticed how your skin always glows after evenings of drinking wine at the beach or the morning after a few drinks and some dancing? That is because wine is full of antioxidants, which boost the skin’s defences and make it smooth, even-toned and glowing. Not only that, wine is great for the heart, when consumed in moderate quantities. So, you might want to rethink becoming a teetotaller!
Potatoes
Every second diet guru raves about sweet potatoes, but nobody ever praises the humble, regular old potato. Full of Vitamin C and Vitamin B, they are much more than the carb-filled guilty pleasure most of us make them out to be!
Chocolate
Dark chocolate (not the milky, sugary kind) is packed with antioxidants that can prevent heart and neurological diseases. If you’re a skincare and beauty freak, then you should know that they also help keep skin protected against damage from UV rays and nourish the skin thereby making it smoother. In fact, Deepika Padukone always carries some chocolate with herself!
Oil
Adding oil to our food is quite taboo, what with air fryers in the picture and all. However, certain oils, like coconut and mustard oil, are sources of very healthy fatty acids, which perform numerous functions, from preventing heart disease, to controlling cholesterol. Not only that, they keep skin moisturised and glowing.
Egg Yolks
Egg white-anything has become a trend, with the world collectively shunning yolks while they gorge on French fries. In reality, this beautiful part of the egg, is also full of a whopping list of nutrients, namely, Vitamin D, calcium, iron, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, Vitamin B1, Vitamin B3, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B9, Vitamin B12, Vitamin K, phosphorus, and zinc. Egg whites contain very little or none of these!
