The worst thing to do on a vacation is obsess over calories and weight gain. Don’t be a spoilsport when you are on a holiday. Here’s why you should go all out and enjoy a guilt-free vacation. Keep calm and don’t worry about the calories.
Ditch your scale:
Despite the common complaint of putting on extra calories, you can’t actually gain that much weight on a vacation.
And, that small gain wouldn’t last long. Your weight will naturally re-adjust itself over the next few weeks, once you are home, without having to go on a diet.
Do yourself a favour and don’t worry about the number on the scale. If you’re eating from a perspective of being mindful and enjoying your food, you will be fine.
Water weight:
If you do see a change on the scale or if you don’t seem to fit in your clothes during a vacation, it’s probably just water weight. So there could be chances that you are eating foods high in salt or carbs such as fries.
No crash dieting before vacation:
If you feel you have gained weight while you are on a vacation, it could be the result of being on a diet before the vacation. So, your body is actually re-stabilising the lost weight. Don’t refrain from foods and then over-indulge. Strike a balance-enjoy foods that give you pure pleasure and also foods that are nutritious.
Give yourself a break from your fitness routine:
People often complain that their fitness routines go for a toss during vacation. If you are on a beach holiday, go for long walks. If you are doing a sightseeing of the city, walk and enjoy the sights. Even on the off chance that you are doing nothing but floating in a pool for two weeks. Fear not! Research has shown that one or two weeks of inactivity won’t affect your fitness level significantly.
Go ahead and treat yourself:
We all want to treat ourselves during vacation. Try to relish those treats. If you want to have that decadent dessert, go indulge! The moment you tell yourself, ‘don’t eat this, don’t eat this’ is exactly when we binge on something we didn’t really want, because we denied ourselves earlier!
