As is the case with most New Year resolutions, this whole year has pretty much been a series of failed promises to live a healthier lifestyle and lose weight. We’re a month away from the end of 2017 and, as expected, we’re all probably scrambling right now to try and get in some gains (of the good kind) before then. While this miracle we’re all hoping for is far from taking place in the limited time span we have left, we can start making a few changes here and there to get us on the right track.
Walk more
Instead of taking an auto to the nearby market or taking the lift all the time, sneak a bit more activity into your routine by walking more or taking the stairs. We’re not saying walking is the most life-changing exercise, but it does help more than you think, and it’s a start. Once you get into the habit of sweating it out and getting your heart rate up, you can step it up with a more intense form of exercise.
Try a diet-based meal-delivery service
Luckily for us, the concept of meal-delivery systems is growing quite rapidly in India. So depending on the kind of healthy food you want to eat or if you’re sticking to a particular type of diet, like keto or even trying out veganism, you can probably find quite a few options available. If a delivery service like this doesn’t seem feasible in terms of money, you can always make the switch to healthier food slowly by preparing it yourself at home.
Work out outdoors
While nothing can compare to the body-changing effects of going to the gym, there’s nothing like an outdoor workout to soothe your body and mind. Whether this means a jog or a run, or a game of badminton or football with your pals, move your workout into the (relatively) fresh air, and you’ll feel less stressed too.
Take a break from your phone
What seems to have become the portable version of the idiot box, our smart phones are the boon and bane of our existence. But in an attempt to give yourself some peace of mind and ensure the well-being of your brain cells, instead of your phone, pick up a book or some art supplies the next time you feel bored. See what the world outside of Snapchat and Instagram looks like and you might find something of interest you didn’t see before.
Try healthier versions of the foods you love
If you’re not fully committed to making a complete dietary change and are too attached to your favourite junk foods, you can try and look for healthier alternatives to them. Whether this means gluten-free pizza or mac and cheese without the heart-stopping amount of cheese, there are a bazillion recipes you can try online now.
