At the beginning of every year I set aside some goals for myself. I am sure you do, too. But on introspection, I realised that I have to accomplish some personal development goals (rather than other frivolous ones), which will automatically make 2016 a better year for me. So I wrote down a list of some very practical and achievable personal development goals that we all must accomplish in 2016 to make it a better year.
1. Learn to get along with people you despise.
You’ll cross paths with various types of people and trust me, you will not like all of them. But your goal should be to be cordial with them, even if you despise them.
2. Be an early riser.
Waking up early isn’t just a way to make more time it’s the best way to improve your performance too because with a fresh mind, you will perform better.
3. Develop conflict resolution skills.
Your aim must be to learn to resolve a conflict effectively because that will help you a great deal in a long way.
4. Manage stress effectively.
Stress is a modern-day reality and we have to learn to manage it effectively. Do more of the things which help you get rid of anxiety and stress and become a pro at managing it effectively.
5. Build your willpower.
You need good willpower to shake up your routine and to work towards accomplishing your goals. It won’t be easy and that’s why you need the grit to stick to it. It will influence all aspects of your life and will help improve it.
6. Work on your attitude.
Your attitude – positive or negative – will affect the way you look at life and deal with every situation. So the best way to turn things around for yourself is to change your attitude and make it more conducive.
7. Get over your fears.
We all have some deep-rooted fears but if we don’t deal with them we’ll never be able to get over them. It could be anything from travelling alone to speaking in public, which need your attention. So work on overcoming them. This will help you grow.
8. Make better decisions.
Your decision-making skills may not be the best, but this year you must try and work on your choices and the decisions you make with them because our decisions shape our lives. So let us aim to make better decisions this year.
9. Get out of your comfort zone.
Yes, it’s a very comfy place but nothing grows there and that’s exactly why we need to move away from it. Only when you move away from your comfort zone will you be able to explore other opportunities.
10. Identify your weaknesses and work on them.
We all have our weaknesses. But the best thing you can do is- identify them and work on improving them so that they never come in your way again.
11. Get feedback.
You will try your best to improve but it’s pointless unless you know what others think of it. So make it a point to ask for feedback, which will give you a better perspective.
12. Quit a bad habit.
I am sure you’ll find many you are juggling with, in your daily life. It could be anything from stressing too much to sleeping too little. Pledge to get rid of it for a better year ahead.
13. Cultivate good habits.
Spend time cultivating habits that will bring a positive change. Take up a new hobby or join a book club.
14. Pay attention to your finances.
Keep an eye on how much you spend, and make some savings because financial discipline can help you plan for a safe future.
15. Concentrate more on what makes you happy.
We often pay too much attention to what the world thinks and what others have to say about us. For a change, concentrate more on your own needs and happiness and see how things change, for the better, of course.
