By now, we’re all well aware of the benefits of drinking black coffee – from helping you lose weight to reducing the risk of cancer and various diseases. But as is with anything in excess, too much coffee is not good for you. Plus, if you’re looking to take a break from coffee for a bit, there are a lot of other delicious beverages you can try out. Here are some of them.

Matcha Green Tea

Matcha tea is a big part of Japanese culture and has gained major popularity in the last couple of years for its health benefits. It essentially means “powdered tea”, and is the powdered form of steamed and dried tea leaves. The tea is known for its high antioxidant and detoxifying properties. It accelerates your metabolism, prevents diseases, is calming and even lowers cholesterol and blood sugar, among other things. You can drink matcha as is intended in the form of tea, or if you don’t fully want to give up on coffee, Starbucks has a variety of cold and hot matcha and coffee blended drinks.

Kombucha

Fermented green or black tea, made using a symbiotic colony of bacteria and yeast (SCOBY), this probiotic drink might take some getting used to, at first, but is totally worth the sour smell and taste. It helps prevent diseases and inflammation, helps to clean out your gut, has antibacterial properties and helps manage diabetes and is good for your cardiovascular system, as well. Kombucha is now available quite easily and can even be brewed at home. But if you’re opting for the self-brewing approach, make sure you do your homework before starting.

Chia Fresca

Popular in Mexico, chia fresca is a drink made of chia seeds, water or coconut water, lemon or lime juice and a sweetener such as honey, agave or maple syrup. The drink is known to be an energy and endurance booster and packs a punch from chia seeds, a superfood rich in fiber, omega 3-fatty acids and proteins, vitamins and minerals. The texture and the look of the murky tadpole-looking seed-infused drink might freak you out a bit at first, but you’ll soon get used to it.

Turmeric Latte

We know, as soon as you read this, the thought of drinking haldi doodh will pop into your mind and probably make you gag. But before you put the thought of trying this out of your minds, hear us out. The benefits of turmeric have probably been ingrained in your being since you were a kid, so, you know that this drink is going to be massively good for you. Plus, it’s not the horrible concoction we were forced to drink as kids. Instead, with the addition of cinnamon and ginger, and either coconut, almond or cashew milk, as opposed to the regular doodh; we have a feeling you might like this one more than you think.

Bulletproof Tea

Born out of Dave Asprey’s now cult-favourite invention, bulletproof coffee, bulletproof tea functions on the same principle, for weight-loss and a crazy good boost of energy. To make bulletproof tea, take a cup of your favourite black tea, MCT (Medium Chain Triglycerides) oil, organic butter and (completely optional) some ground cinnamon or ginger to taste and a sweetener like honey if you require it.
