What NOT To Wear To Work This Summer

Summer is here and we can’t wait to simplify. And by that we mean, hello, tank tops, frayed shorts and breezy summer dresses. Easy, airy clothes that cover as little real estate as we can possibly get away with without being booked for public indecency. Balancing out your work wardrobe can also be really tricky. While it’s great to let your inner fashionista out with new Spring Summer 2016 trends, don’t forget to dress a certain way at your workplace. Here are common wardrobe mistakes we make at work when summer rolls in.

Summer Workwear Don’t #1: Baring it all

mesh

Yes, sporty knit-mesh has found a way back into our closets and we love how the translucent nature of the fabric lets our skin breathe. But, wear it on a relaxed weekend instead of your office, unless your workplace is a café by the beach, of course. You don’t want everyone to know the colour and shape of your bra.

Summer Workwear Don’t #2: It’s a sleepover party

jammies

Who wouldn’t want to lounge in their jammies at work? You can even get away by saying that the anti-fit separates in a luxe silk fabric are the trend du jour, but not at work (sorry to burst your bubble). Keep your separates crisp and smart and save your lounge-y trousers for a daytime shopping spree.

Summer Workwear Don’t #3: “It’s all about that bass”

lowslung

Low-slung trousers are back and in their revamped avatar, rest right on the hip. At work though, you don’t want to bend over only to bare your taut – or maybe, not so taut – booty. You are not Nicki Minaj performing your own version of Anaconda. Instead, stick to your regular trousers or if you really want low-rise pants, then pair them with a longer top.

Summer Workwear Don’t #4: “Shine bright like a diamond”

sequin

Sequins are back in potent shades like burgundy and navy. You may want to turn heads; work is really not a place you want to look like a disco ball. Save the sequinned dress for the time when you plan to go clubbing over the weekend. Or balance the proportions with a shirt with a bit of sequin detailing on the wrists and neckline. Glamorous and professional … we approve.

Summer Workwear Don’t #5: Slide in it

slippers

We know that backless shoes are one of the most comfortable shoes trends this season. They are also annoyingly noisy and will divert everyone attention to you – and not in a good way. Choose a shoe with a strap at the back, or an oxford which is both classic and trendy.
