This Is What It Felt Like When Food Apps Stopped Delivering During Mumbai Rains

Just when we thought we were done with the torrential Mumbai rains, the clouds returned with a vengeance and flooded the entire city. From commuting to work to stepping out to get the basic necessities, life came to a standstill.

Things got worse when even food delivery apps stopped operations. Nothing hurts more than when your favourite food doesn’t reach your doorstep. Imagine when you are craving those crispy hot Bombil fries or deep-fried peri-peri chicken, but you can’t have it because the food apps are inactive. It hurts! It really does.

Here’s how a day during Mumbai monsoons actually felt like when the food apps showed “currently unserviceable.” Kaafi dardnaak!

1. You can’t wait for the rain to stop and you constantly keep going back to the apps to check if they are back in service. It’s anxiety inducing.

2. You don’t have any options to choose from. You learn to eat whatever is there in the house and eventually make peace with it because you gotta feed that tummy!

3. You expect your cook to turn up somehow and make your fave meal to suit the weather. And if they do–they’re godsent. Literally!

4. You reconsider your decision of giving cooking a try. How you wish you were married to a chef who would make restaurant jaisa khana ghar pe!

5. You try calling your fave restaurant and request them personally to deliver food. You don’t even mind paying extra for that.

6. You avoid going on Instagram because the food posts from blogs you follow will make you even hungrier.

7. YouTube becomes your best friend, where you try to learn and experiment with some new dishes out of whatever ingredients you have at home.

8. You pledge to stock up your fridge with some exotic vegetables and ingredients and be prepared for the next time you see the weather acting up!

9. A true foodie in such a situation is not hungry, but “hangry”.

10. When everything fails, Maggi is our ultimate refuge!

FIN!
