The Three Golden Rules Of Contouring Your Face

Contouring has taken over the beauty world. All of us have tried the popular technique that vows to give you cheekbones and a bone structure so sharp that you could just slay. But, every SINGLE time we try to contour at home (trying to mimic the millions videos we see online) we have ended up looking like a disco ball because we use bronzer that is too glittery or luminiser that’s too harsh. Yes, it looks easy and it maybe is, but we all really need to nail down the finer details about contouring that actually matter. Here is how you can get your contouring right.
Have an Even Base
Make sure you have an even base on that is the closest to your skin colour (perhaps this video about skin undertones will help). If you are going to use powder products to contour your face, then dust on some loose powder before you use bronzer or highlighter, else the product won’t blend in and the skin will start to look blotchy.

We suggest: Maybelline Shine Free Loose Powder
Pick a Matte Bronzer
You really need a bronzer that has NO shimmer in it. This is the reason you end up looking like a Christmas tree once you are done contouring. Pick a product that is a shade or two darker than your natural skintone for optimum results.

Blending is Key
Another mistake we make on repeat is that we don’t blend out the contoured regions enough. You don’t want to have two stark lines that separate your cheek and your jawline. You want to create an illusion of a soft shadow and you can only attain that if you blur the lines (hi, Robin Thicke!) Use a brush with densely packed bristles and then just buff your product in.

We suggest: Real Techniques Sculpting Brush
And if you are still confused about contouring, here is a video that will give you better understanding of the technique.
