With fancy restaurants and gastronomically challenging food start ups coming up in every nook and corner of this city, the one thing I always look for is a casual place. A place where I can chill, eat and enjoy without feeling the pinch in my pocket and Tuk Tukk is exactly that.
This quaint cafe, situated in Shivaji Park in Dadar, is a welcome change, considering the mushrooming growth of crowded lounge bars and beer breweries.
The French décor, easy-going vibe, upbeat music, a fancy chalk board menu display and the bright interiors can make you feel relaxed, from the word ‘go’.
But for me the real test was the taste.
So on a Saturday evening, we set out and I’m glad that we were not disappointed.
We started off with the bacon and egg French toast though we requested them to switch the bacon with chicken (as I don’t eat pork). What came to our table was a huge French toast sandwich that got over in exactly 30 seconds. Yes, it was that good! Sandwiched between perfectly fried bread slices was chicken salami and egg omelette, which complemented each other so well. It made me wonder why hadn’t I tried it before. And even though this is a breakfast dish we ate it for lunch. It was quite filling.
We then stuffed our faces in the Kheema Roll -spicy minced soya or meat stuffed between baguette bread and topped with cheese, green onions, fried onions, eggs and cucumber. I have never eaten kheema like that before. I simply loved how the the green onions and cheese enhanced the flavour of this spicy dish. It arrived piping hot, but we didn’t wait for it to cool down, we dug right into it. Also, thumbs up for the presentation.
We were now ready to wash down all this food with some soothing liquids. So from their variety of milkshakes and smoothies, I chose to sip on some Cookie Blast Milkshake while my friend ordered a Belgium Chocolate Blast. Both were thick and quite chocolaty in flavour.
We were then served the Tortilla Lasagne, which was topped with generous amounts of melting cheese. The dish was hot, flavourful and unique. It made for a great main course dish. We also tried the Khao Suey, which given its nature had a rich coconut flavour and thick consistency. I loved how it was presented – with the right amount of garnish – brought in a small muffin tray.
We also tried the Nutella Marshmallow sandwich had a generous amount of marshmallows between breads, which were smeared with nutella. This sandwich is then toasted so that the marshmallows become soft and gooey. It is then topped with chocolate sauce. Biting into this sinful sandwich-cum-dessert is truly divine especially for a chocolate fan.
For dessert, we ordered the Kulfi with Jamun and the Choco Rocco Tower, which is a three-layer chocolate tower. We were not particularly happy about this one though. It was well-presented, but wasn’t flavourful.
Their menu is small and compact with some very well-done dishes, which won’t give you a chance to regret your decision of stepping in.
Board games, free WiFi and peppy music in the background are the other plus points.
Tuk, Tukk has been set up based on the concept of serving pre-plated food, which is sufficient for one person. It also has a diverse blend of cuisines and fusion food. Some of their other signature dishes are: Akuri on Salli, Baked Chicken Stew, Chole Kheema Tikki and Mashed Oats Khichdi. They also have an elaborate breakfast menu, which makes it a great place for a late Sunday brunch too.
We highly recommend Tuk, Tukk for it’s great budget-friendly food and amazing ambience.
