Town House Café’s melon duet feta salad
SoBo’s latest European Bar and Grill located at Fort spans over two floors – moss green walls and French posters adorn the lower – whilst a cozy bar and a mural of the street outside, created by artist Pratap More, grace the space above.
We started our meal at Town House Café with the culinary world’s latest fad, a melon duet feta salad. Perfectly cut rounds of muskmelon, served with arugula and pomegranate reduction, sat atop a thick slice of their blushing cousin. Whilst nearly perfect, the dish could have done with a little more cheese.
We then dived into our halloumi crostinis and lamb sliders. The combination of bell peppers, tomato concassee and rich Turkish cheese made for a delectable platter, whilst the beetroot sauce smeared on the sides added an elegant touch. The burgers came with crisp patties, sautéed mushroom, caramalised onions and a bit of avocado sauce for an element of surprise.
Tropical Punch and Sangrias kept us company till the mains arrived. While the pineapple juice blended beautifully with rum, the flavour of the orange overpowered that of the white wine. As such Town House prides itself on fruity concoctions, including one that uses tender coconut water.
By then we’d worked up an appetite for the seafood risotto, a comforting blend of calamari, prawns and basa (seasonal), with just the right amount of mascarpone. The saffron polenta arrived with ratatouille stuffed artichoke and Toscana dressing – a tangy sweet reduction of balsamic, cherry tomatoes and orange. If you’re one for culinary experiments, give this platter a chance to grow on you. We concluded with the Scallopian crepes that encompassed the goodness of mushroom, onion and goat cheese. Dressed in red pepper sauce the dish was more cannelloni than crepe – an absolute delight nevertheless!
The dessert menu was a work-in-progress then. Starting last week, the restaurant served an array of delicacies including tiramisu and panna cotta, with a Town House twist. As such, the wide menu attempts to imbibe the best of many regions. You can sink into the comfort of mac’n’cheese gnocchis or devour a plate of lamb kebabs. With Sterling next door, we suggest you set yourself up for the perfect movie and dinner kind of night!
