I’d only just heard of Ground Zero at C’est La Vie when we decided to pay a visit. We landed up at the almost empty bar and bistro on a Sunday night, while Bandra’s party animals chose the end of the weekend to chill out at home; we weren’t complaining. A couple of cocktails and some good music were all we were looking for. Well, we certainly were in for a treat.
With great lounge-style seating (read comfortable couches) and bar stools, dim lighting and retro music for company, I already had a smile on my lips. The night progressively got better in terms of the music and the food.
We called for the Pomegranate Martini – a Ground Zero Special and requested the bartender to do a Fuzzy Navel (Peach Schnapps and Orange Juice) for us, which isn’t on the menu. Both drinks turned out great but what really had us were the prices. The cocktails start at Rs.350, and from 6 to 9 PM on Friday and Saturday, and then 6 to 11 PM from Sunday to Thursday, it’s Buy 1 Get 1 Free. Yes, happy hours indeed!
To go with our drinks, we ordered a few Bar Bites – Mezze Platter (with Hummus, Babaganoush, Blue Cheese & Falafel) and Chicken Tikka Bruschetta. While the food isn’t trying for a 5-star rating, we quite liked how Ground Zero has given a little twist to almost all their food items. A non-vegetarian bruschetta and a Mezze platter with babaganoush! Quite innovative, we think!
They also have kebabs, pizzas, burgers, pastas et al for those who’d like a complete meal; but if you’re looking to simply relax over drinks, the bar bites would do it for you.
So if you happen to be in the surburb of Bandra any day of the week, we suggest you check in at Ground Zero. When the congested, smokey clubs fail to impress, this place certainly will with its laid-back, unpretentious atmosphere and reasonable prices!
