Yauatcha is celebrating Golden Week across India with a signature set menu. Given that every dish on the menu is limited edition, and will not be included in the a la carte menu, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity. So Saturday afternoon saw us at the lovely BKC restaurant, ready to enjoy a delectable selection of Oriental dishes.

We began our meal with the Golden Orchard – a cocktail made of agave syrup, tequila, dark rum, triple sec, peach juice, orchid flower tea and champagne. Not too sweet despite the ingredients, the Golden Orchard was surprisingly Oriental yet Caribbean in its flavour, thanks to the combination of a Chinese tea infusion and the peach juice.

Soon after our drinks arrived, the starters – Crispy Spicy Tofu and Prawn Chive Dumpling – were served. While I found that the tofu was slightly dry and didn’t quite melt in the mouth, the Prawn Chive Dumpling was simply divine. The flavours were well-balanced and distinct, ensuring you could taste every ingredient, including the outer covering of the dumpling. The vegetarian dim sums too were delectable. The veggies were well-cooked and crunchy, and the celery just made all the difference. Even if you’re a hardcore non vegetarian, you’d love them.

The main course on the set menu included Golden Fried Snapper in Jasmine Rice Sauce, Chicken Water Chestnut and Shimeji Mushroom in Emperor’s Chilli Sauce, Black Olive Rice and Vegetable Mahlak Udon Noodles. The portions of each dish were more than enough for two and we had a tough time finishing it all.

The noodles were a medley of sweet and spicy cooked to perfection, but a little too saucy for our liking, with slightly overpowering flavours. The rice, on the other hand, had subtle flavours of black olives and made for a perfect accompaniment for the rest of the meal. The crispy fried fish with a sweet tangy sauce was pleasant, but the mildly flavoured chicken preparation was our favourite item in this course. The crunchy water chestnuts and lotus stem perfectly added to the texture of the dish.

We completed our meal with Golden Chocolate – two bars of unadulterated goodness, filled with molten chocolate and plated with gold, served with vanilla bean ice cream. Ah! Our taste buds were completely pampered.
