Baluchi, the pan Indian Restaurant at the Lalit

Situated right next to the international airport in Mumbai, The Lalit is a five star hotel that houses Baluchi, the pan Indian restaurant.  Specialising in authentic Indian cuisine, Baluchi lives up to its name and provides tantalising dishes made with Indian spices for a wholesome and traditional meal.

One of the best dishes is the Dal baluchi which is a combination of black lentils and ginger-garlic that is simmered overnight on charcoal fire and finished with cream. As the Master chef of Baluchi, Chef Sameer, explained the tedious process to us. We relish this delicious dish that can be touted as the best dal we’ve ever eaten.

Another must-try delicacy is the jhinga Zebunnisa – prawns marinated in traditional spices.

The signature dish Jhinga zabunnisa

After finishing a rich and tasty paya shorba we were served starters like chicken tikka, tandoori chicken along with jhinga zaibunnisa. We then moved onto the main course of  Ajwaini fish curry. The fish was soft and well marinated in the spices that properly coated the crust, making it a flavourful dish. The scrumptious Hyderabadi biryani too was finger-licking good.

But, one dish that deserves a special mention is the Bhindi Nazakatwali.  Apart from having a fancy name, it is a lip-smacking vegetarian dish that is sure to leave you asking for more.

A special must-have dessert is the unique dish called Zeebayish. It is made of eggs, almonds, rose petals and saffron, and tastes so delicious that we almost wrote down the recipe.

All in all, Buluchi’s menu offerings are a feast for the fan of traditional Indian food. If you like rich, savoury dishes that are inspired by the diet of our forefathers, this is the place to find them.
