I have been living in the city of dreams, Mumbai, for nearly 23 years and consider it a melting pot of varied people, their cultures, and food. Mumbai never mourns, every day in the city is a celebration and the month of Ramadan is just an addition to this. Yes, the Muslim community all over the world is practicing a month of fasting-which ends with Eid-where they come together and pray at mosques, binge on sumptuous feasts after a full day of no food, and visit friends and family.
While the Muslim community prays, fasts and feasts, what this month brings for us, foodies, is a month-long food festival. Pop-up stalls and food vendors set up for iftar – the breaking of the fast – serving melt-in-mouth kebabs, roomali rotis, fresh fruit drinks, sweetmeats, and much more. Earlier this week, we planned a (virtual) food walk around Mumbai’s famous Mohammed Ali Road. Located near Masjid Bunder in southern part of the city, the usually chaotic bylanes of this road transform into a khau galli a.k.a a food lover’s paradise, around this time. We visited two major khau gallis there: Minara Masjid and Bohri Mohalla.
Feast your eyes on the pictures we clicked in these gallis. Beware, a mere glance can compel you to visit the bustling street right away.
