When we talk about eating out in a city like Mumbai, it is a given that certain places will be revered above others. In some cases, the praise is well deserved by the restaurant or eating joint, but, many a time, they’re not. In keeping with this, we present to you a list of the most overrated places in the city of dreams. Regardless of who you are, tourist or local, go through this list and make sure you give these overhyped places a miss when exploring the city.

Haji Ali Juice Centre

There was a time when people went bonkers over the fruit cream (strawberry and mango, to be specific) this juice centre served. But today, all that the place is left to offer is an overpriced menu with average tasting fruit juices, shakes, flavoured ice creams and rolls.

Sardar Pav Bhaji, Tardeo

Now, we understand that absolutely no one would say no to a food item loaded with butter. But when you eat the pav bhaji offered by this ‘famous’ restaurant, it will make you wonder where the vegetables disappeared. Basically, you’ll feel like the vegetables in the recipe have been replaced by butter.

Leopold Cafe, Colaba

Although Leopold has been famous for a long time, the cafe caught the attention of millions when the unfortunate terrorist attacks took place in the city. Ever since, there is a certain morbid curiosity in tourists and locals that attracts them to place. But that’s about all there is to the place. The food is average and unremarkable, the alcohol overpriced, and the waiters borderline racist.

Elco Restaurant, Bandra

Well, this isn’t a problem with their entire restaurant, but just the pani puri. Apart from being overpriced, the India-favourite chaat item here is nothing but an overpriced avatar of the street foo – pani puri 2.0 with none of the soul. While the place is always crowded, the chaat lacks that explosive burst flavours in one’s mouth.

Bade Miyan’s, Colaba

We’ve visited this place a couple of times and have to say that the brand is losing its charm. Although it is progressing and they have extended branches, in this journey there has been a major compromise on taste and quantity of the dishes. The only thing they haven’t compromised on is the price, which is quite high compared to the quantity of the food.
