Cake is bae. Since it’s the festive season, there’s lots of cake eating, cake buying and celebration happening. And often, so much of it is left over, that we dump it in the fridge and pick at it every once in a while; till it gets stale and we need to throw it away. But wait, there’s absolutely no need to throw away a decent cake when you can make a number of sweet treats out of it. Cake is one of only the few versatile desserts that you can actually use to create other desserts.
For those of you with a sweet tooth, we’ve come up with some unique recipes for you to create from any leftover cake. The recipes are simple and easy, and we promise you’ll be licking your fingers later.
1. Brownie Blend
Add a chunk of cake, some milk and one scoop of ice cream into a blender. Blend well and pour into a tall glass. Top it up with whatever you like (Another scoop of ice cream, some chocolate sauce or some marshmallows) and tadaa! We have a winner… Enjoy your shake with a straw.
2. Cake Pops
Cake pops are a super fun and yummy dessert to make and share with your friends and family. Typically, they are made by crumbling cake with buttercream or cream cheese, which makes it into a malleable, moldable mixture. The mixture is formed into little balls, which are then coated with candy or chocolate coating. The coating seals in the moisture, making the cake taste like new again. Delicious!
3. Cake Trifle
Combine your leftover cake with layers of custard, whipped cream, jelly and fresh fruit. You can experiment according to your likes and dislikes. For example, a rich chocolate cake could be matched with chocolate custard or mousse, some pitted cherries and a topping of whipped cream.
4. Ice-Cream Sundae
Cut a fairly big slice of cake into smaller cubes and put in a cup. Add a scoop of vanilla or chocolate ice cream on top. Add some warm chocolate sauce on top and sprinkle with some crushed gems. Your cake-scream-sundae is ready to enjoy!
