White Owl’s Brewery

After much trouble to acquire a license to start their microbrewery, White Owl based in Mumbai’s commercial complex, One India Bulls Centre, has finally launched their oh-so-hyped artisanal beers. Well, we were pretty excited to grab one or several rounds of their in-house beers.

At present, they have four fresh brews that are made with fresh ingredients outsourced from different parts of the world to keep the authentic flavours intact. The Halycon, the Shadow, the Torpedo and the Diablo are the four crafted beers available at the White Owl.

The names sound intriguing and we were pretty kicked to sip on these. Available in 90 ml, 330 ml and 550 ml quantities, you can choose your pick. But, if you are confused then they do offer a sampler round for you to taste and pick your favourite, before you decide to pour yourself a bigger mug.

The four interesting beer flavours available at the White Owl

The beers are all packed with unique flavours that tease your senses. Yhe Torpedo has a soothing citrusy flavour with a bitter aftertaste, while the Diablo, their Irish Red Ale, is a better pick for light drinkers and has a tinge of caramel-flavoured uniqueness.

The Halycon variety, on the other hand, has influences of the German Hefeweizen with a more fruity flavour that can be traced to banana and cloves. While the Shadow has smoky tints that take your palate to a totally different direction.

The beers were as varied in colours as in flavours. From a golden yellow tinge to a dark brown rich hue, it was a wide range on our table.

While the Shadow won hearts unanimously, the Torpedo was my favourite. We were also informed that in the next few months, two more beer varieties will be introduced to suit the palette of beer aficionados.

The whole idea was to enjoy the beverages without worrying about how to match it right with the food you’re eating and what goes best with what, and being occasional beer drinkers, it was just right for us.

The delicious Orange Chilli duck Baskets

But the brewery does have a special small plate menu that curates dishes to accompany the various beers.

We did bite into some of these delicious delicacies like the Orange Chilli Duck Baskets, the Fire Roasted Pumpkin Quiche and the Jalapeno Spiked Polenta Squares that were made tactfully and managed to satiate our hungry souls.

All in all, we had a fun time chugging on some crafted beers and sampling a wide variety of flavours.
