Bandra’s newest food haunt, Asado is the perfect place to go grab a drink after a long hard day at work. Done up to look like a quaint sidewalk café, the Latin American feel is visible in the soft colours, vibrant floral touches and an overall calm yet inviting ambience.

Offering you two seating options – chill out in the outer part of the restaurant or walk in for a more formal feel – the place focuses of grilled meat options with a mix of Latin American and Modern European dishes. The menu has a wide offering ranging from subtle, bland tastes to generous dashes of chilli and garlic for the spicy food lover in you.

We started off with the Mexican offering, Chilcano, which offers a mix of light rum and beer overturned into a fish-bowl sized bowl. The spicy flavours of the cocktail were perfectly complemented by the vegetable Nachos which came with the right mix of sauces and beans. Another thing that adds to your experience is the staff who are more than happy to come over and aid you through the Mexican and Latin choices, inquiring about your taste preferences and educating you on the various options.

Try the Chipotle Charisu Cottage Cheese appetiser, which offers just the right blend of spices, making it hot but subtle enough for you to let you relish the flavours. The vegetable Quesadilla Roll comes with a delightful filling of vegetables, beans and cheese and it is pan-fried to give you that extra crunch. Our carb cravings were perfectly indulged with the Texmex Loaded Potato Skin that came with asparagus and spicy cheese sauce. A great combination.

If you are a meat lover go in for the Habanero BBQ Chicken Wings, which are tossed in Habanero sauce giving your taste buds a perfect spice tadka. The Katafi Prawns were a letdown. The dish cooked in Jalapeno spiked corn puree and tangy fruit salsa turned out more sweet than tangy, taking away the taste, especially if you were expecting the spicy taste of jalapenos.

The Serrano Chicken Fajita for the mains was a good blend of Mexican spices. The Edamame Truffle Risotto again gave a nice twist to the popular Italian cuisine. The lack of additional spice that is usually present in order to make the food appeal to the Indian taste buds is what really makes Asado one of its kinds. Although we didn’t really have an appetite for the stone grilled meats, they come highly recommended, especially the Pork Ribs.

We ended the meal with a Tres Leches cake, which left no room for complaint. Overall, a great joint if you are looking for a peaceful atmosphere to enjoy a meal and good conversation.
