Get your kids to be a master chef with Vikas Khanna’s cookbook

A picky-eater as a kid turned Michelin Star Chef, Vikas Khanna learnt all about cooking and eating healthy in his Grandma’s kitchen. Khanna was her little helper during his childhood, and it comes as no surprise that he recently launched a cookbook for kids titled ‘Young Chefs’.

The book begins with a letter from the author to your kiddo, adding a charming personal touch. Then it goes on to details such as kitchen tools and symbols, basics of cooking such as steaming, deep frying, boiling, simmering and more.

Khanna gets down to bare essentials such as wearing an apron and washing hands before starting to cook. Yes, he resonates with your sentiments!

Every dish documented in the book has been prepared by a child and you will marvel at their culinary skills. It has a healthy mix of nutritious and fun foods to send picky eaters packing.

The cookbook is divided into meals that include breakfast, lunch, mains, desserts and drinks such as lemonades and shakes. With recipes like beetroot raita and vegetable tart, you will never have to complain about your child not eating healthy or wasting food. After all, who can resist fishcakes and chilli paneer made from scratch by a seven-year-old?

Something on the lines of BBQ chicken or Lasagne could have been filed under tough-to-try folder in your kitchen. This book will banish such pre-conceived notions with its brilliant and simple take on seemingly complicated dishes. Don’t be too surprised if your child fulfills your sweet craving with a blueberry cheesecake or shahi tukda, and prepares cookies for tea time.

The book has enough colour and deliciousness to attract your little one and the child in you. Your only complaint will be not having enough free time during the weekend, because the little one can’t resist cooking!
