Housed in Waterstones Hotel in Andheri, Mumbai, All Stir Fry boasts of an Oriental street-kitchen-style restaurant, with an open noodle bar that offers wok cooking, along with serving Asian food. Akin to its first outlet in Colaba which opened its doors in 2001, this place has clean and simple décor that makes for a quiet dinner space.
We walked in with the intention of trying out the woks, and the unlimited options sure got us excited. So here’s how it works. You select a vegetarian or non-vegetarian option, get your bowl and coupon from the chef and head over to the selection. You have a variety of noodles and rice to choose from, after which you can add veggies to garnish the meal. Head over to the chicken, meat and prawns section or add in some tofu and hand back the bowl to the chef. Choose from a variety of sauces, wait for a couple of minutes and your meal is ready.
We started off with a choice of flat noodles with bell peppers, corn, olives, onions, pineapple and spinach tossed in oyster sauce along with chicken. The sauce gave it the perfect hint of spice and the pineapple pieces added to the sweet and spicy combo. My colleague opted for the vegetarian option of tomato and spinach noodles with Mongolian sauce. The chef added a dose of schezwan sauce to it along with some ginger paste to make it hot and spicy to suit her taste. While one wok is enough to fill you up, we bravely went in for another serving.
This time choosing a mix of flat noodles and rice along with zucchini, bell peppers, Chinese cabbage all tossed together in yellow bean sauce. The taste was perfect; however the rice tends to get a bit too soggy if you don’t eat it quick enough.
The perfect accompaniment to the meal was a Cucumber and Mint Caiprioska, which had the right amount of vodka and white rum, complementing the minty flavor. And what’s a meal without dessert! Date pancakes with ice cream was as delicious as it sounds, especially if you love dates. The Tum Tim Grob, which is a Thai dessert (akin to the Indian falooda) with water chestnut and coconut water, is recommended only if you love the flavour of coconut in your food and dessert!
Overall the place is great to grab a quick dinner and then to head out to the garden-sitting area for a post-dinner conversation and some desserts. Also I must make a special mention of the staff, and the chef who are ready to guide you through the process of choosing the perfect sauce to appeal to your palate.
