What makes the Vietnamese cuisine so special? The fresh herbs and the fish sauce sets it apart from every other cuisine. It might be simple but never boring. With mint, cilantro, lemongrass, garlic, star anise, and ginger, tear-inducing chilies, and the essential drops of fish sauce mostly everypart of the meal, the cuisine is is a must-try. Here are five Vietnamese dishes you need to try asap.

Fresh summer rolls

Perfect to beat the summer heart! Fresh, crisp and incredibly healthy, these rolls are made of very thing rice paper and filled with fresh herbs, crunchy veggies, shrimp and glass noodles. Dip these in Hung’s special hoisin-peanut sauce and you’ll be feeling cooler than a cucumber.

Glass noodles

Vietnamese cuisine features rice in a variety of ways and noodles is one of them. These delicate glass noodles are tossed with fresh vegetables and seafood over high heat along with the signature lemongrass and basil accents of the region. The noodles are distinctive and light and can be eaten alone as opposed to as a side dish.

Vietnamese chicken curry with potatoes

One of our favourites from the menu! This curry is high in flavour and gives you a real sensation of getting a piece of Saigon on your plate. Perfect for sharing with friends and family, this coconut based curry pairs well with steamed rice which highlights the complex flavour palette of the dish.

BBQ eggplant

An avant garde take on a simple ingredient. Fire grilled eggplant is topped with flavoured sauces, roasted peanut, chillies and burnt garlic. This is a true delight for veggie lovers however we’ve definitely come across a few non vegetarians going gaga for this dish!

Vietnamese spring rolls

Lighter and more flavourful than your average spring roll, Vietnamese spring rolls are wrapped in (you guessed it) a super thin rice paper and served with lettuce, herbs and a special house sauce. You wrap the roll in the lettuce, top with fresh herbs, dip and you’re ready to go!
