Caffeine is the bomb! It’s something most of us can’t do without. We start off drinking it in small amounts–a great cuppa of chai, or a mug of freshly-brewed coffee. Then it turns into a habit… and slowly, the habit eats you from the inside. But we can’t let go. However you should–because once you wean off caffeine, your body will change for the better. I struggled hard and gave up on caffeine for a month, and this is what what happened

1. For starters, I got headaches more often

I have migraine, hence my nerves tend to throb a little more than the rest. After I quit caffeine and my headaches increased, I decided to Google the shit out of what was happening to me. Well, turns out there’s a legit thing called caffeine withdrawal headache. People who are habituated to drinking more than 500 grams of caffeine on a regular basis are likely to have these headaches as soon as they quit caffeine. However, it can be controlled with proper intake of water throughout the day. If your body is properly hydrated, this problem won’t persist.

2. My skin glowed to the gods!

I was surprised to see a natural glow on my skin after a couple of days, and I could feel my skin getting healthier. Quitting caffeine actually helped as it cleansed my liver, and acted as a natural detox.

3. I slept soundly

We all know how caffeine keeps you awake–which also happens to be the reason we always take the help of coffee or tea when we need to work late hours. Cutting down on caffeine helped me big time. I used to stay up till 2 am. At times, even 3 am, doing nothing. You see, the five cups of coffee were affecting my sleep. That one month, I got the soundest sleep ever. My mornings were brighter and I felt less tired.

4. I took fewer rounds of the washroom

It’s not just alcohol that makes you take poop and pee several times. Caffeine does that too. Did you know, caffeine increases urine production in the body? As a result, you feel like peeing more often than usual and your body is dehydrated.

5. My anxiety got a break

I suffer from anxiety, and I realised cutting out caffeine helped me deal with it better to a certain extent. Initially, when I didn’t have my morning cup of tea in front of me, it made me feel irritated and unsettled. Over a period of 30 days, however, I realised giving it a break gave a break to my anxiety as well. By the fourth week, I realised I had become a lot more relaxed and patient.
