The Real Reason Why You’re Up All Night And Groggy All Day

I’m sure you’ve experienced this at least once in your life. Adulting is difficult, and let’s face it, the whole ‘Early to bed, early to rise’ theory, is rather hard to follow. On most nights we do just the opposite. And when we manage to wake up and drag ourselves to work after an awfully late night, the day goes by in a daze. Feeling groggy all day is no fun and I know it firsthand, because I’ve been there. While a lack of sleep is one of the primary causes for this, it sometimes isn’t the only one. If you’re up all night and disoriented all day, these could be the reasons:

Dehydration

It’s easy to forget to drink enough liquids when we’re busy going about our daily lives. But neglecting your water intake can increase fatigue, and make you more prone to headaches. All of these, in turn, will affect your performance during the day.

Too much caffeine

It’s often tempting to grab a cup of coffee when you’re low on energy, especially before the workday is over. But overdoing it can have the exact opposite effect. Caffeine stays in the body long after you’ve consumed it. What’s more, too much of it leads to adrenal overload. When that excess dose of adrenaline goes away, you can suddenly feel exhausted.

Using your phone before sleeping

This may be the simplest yet hardest habit to break. The artificial light emitting from your phone, tricks your brain into believing it needs to stay awake because it associates light with daytime. This deception can disrupt your circadian rhythm, which in turn leads to poorer sleep at night and as a result you feel rundown during the day.
