For millennia, the moon has been used to measure time and tide, helping us determine seasons, track calendars, celebrate important festival, and has even been a pivotal conquest for countries like USA, China, Russia, and India participating in the space race. The moon and the earth have an inseparable connection that cultures even today use to track days, months, and years… and now Interstellar’s LUNAR1,622 watch even has the moon counting down seconds too. Designed as a tribute to our cosmic neighbor and our human endeavors to visit and understand it, the LUNAR1,622 timepiece comes with actual moon dust encased inside its watch body. The dust, collected from a moon meteorite, sits within a vial at the 3 o’clock position while the watch itself has a detailed relief 3D print of the moon’s cratered surface on its face, surrounded by an homage to all of NASA’s Apollo missions, and Neil Armstrong’s iconic quote, “One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” I’ve seen watches that are out of this world, but the LUNAR1,622 takes that phrase a little too seriously!

The LUNAR1,622 captures the mystical allure of the moon and the indomitable human spirit to understand it. The NASA-approved timepiece sports a clean outer body that guides your eye to the dizzying level of detail on the watch’s face. Glance at the watch and it honestly feels like you’re looking at the skies with how realistic its moon relief face is. The dial is meticulously crafted using cutting-edge 3D printing technology that captures the intricate details of the lunar surface using 3D planet mapping.
Shift your eyes to the 3 o’clock position and instead of a date window, you’ve got a window with either a graphic of Neil Armstrong’s iconic moon footprint, or a vial filled with actual dust from a moon-rock that was excavated in Morocco in 2017. The rock was certified to be of moon-origin by NASA and each watch comes with its own certificate of authenticity. The LUNAR1,622 comes in three variants – the Standard with the footprint graphic, or the Advanced and Premium which have moon dust embedded within them.
Keep looking around the watch’s body and you discover all sorts of lunar easter eggs that make the timepiece an absolute collector’s item for any space-geek or stargazer. The bezel sports every NASA lunar mission, with the orbital missions in white, and the landings numbered in gold. The 3 o’clock window has the Apollo 11 mission’s date inscribed on it, along with Neil Armstrong’s initials, and is surrounded by the famed Armstrong quote labeled around the edge of the watch’s stainless steel body. Flip the case over and you’ll find NASA’s logo on the back, paying tribute to the space agency’s relentless pursuit of demystifying the moon through all its missions. Standard and Advanced watch variants sport a sandblasted 316L stainless steel case while the Premium variant gets upgraded to a titanium case, all of which are then capped with sapphire crystal glass and is rated up to 10ATM for water resistance.
The LUNAR1,622 watch comes from Interstellar, a watchmaking startup powered by horology giants Col&MacArthur. Building on their parent company’s ethos of designing legacies instead of timepieces, the LUNAR1,622 captures the grandeur of humanity’s lunar conquests. The watch gets its name from ‘Lunar’, the Middle English derivative of the Latin word Luna, while the number 1,622 represents the surface gravity of the moon. The watch is available in 3 variants – a Standard with the Footprint graphic, the Advanced with the vial of moon dust, and the Premium, which aside from having the moon dust also packs a few extra features. The Standard and the Advanced both sport the Japanese-made Miyota 8215 automatic movement, while the Premium edition packs a Swiss-made Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement.
The Premium edition also sports a titanium case and comes outfitted with gold-plated seconds hands, has a built-in NFC chip that lets you share the watch details to your phone simply by tapping the two together. The Premium edition also ships in its own NASA collector’s box and is limited to just 2025 units, as a hat-tip to the upcoming Artemis III manned mission to the moon in 2025. The Standard, Advanced, and Premium models start at $399, $599, and $999 respectively, shipping with black leather bands that can additionally be upgraded to rubber, stainless steel, or even titanium straps. A $99 fee also lets you upgrade to the NASA Collector box for Standard and Advanced variants, allowing you to take your cosmic watch to newer aesthetic heights!
