The 2040 Mercedes-Benz W196R Streamliner concept pays tribute to the original W196R, drawing from its style and technical achievements. Just as the classic formula one racer took inspiration from advancements in aeronautics (specifically WWII fighter planes), so does the 2040 W196R with its dual jet engine power system.
According to designer Minwoong Im, a land-speed record is in order! Unlike the original open cockpit version, these modern breakneck speeds call for a tightly enclosed cabin and low slung profile. Its aerodynamic form and curvaceous silhouette subtly mimic the 1950s version but its no less extreme looking than you’d expect from a supersonic jet!
