Moving away from the more over-designed, intimidating and aggressive design language of modern household tools, Abidur Chowdhury has designed revolutionized the image of the conventional DIY tools. Chowdhury believes there is a “lack of consistency between both the hammer head and handle.” It’s this disconnected design aesthetic which creates an intimidating perception for the user whose primary use of the device might only last a handful of seconds at a time.

Turning this design language on its head, Chowdhury designed a more approachable set of tools. Burying the typically inconsistent designs of previous tools, Instrumentum carries elements that are visually consistent, soft and desirable to use, hold, and display. Smartly designed, the split within the head of the hammer dissipates the energy and reduces the impact being transferred into the user’s hands. Visually stimulating and made to appease any onlooker, Instrumentum strips the tool of any intimidation and invites a visually welcoming language from every angle. Abidur Chowdhury has hit the nail on the head with this one.
