The thing about Steve Jobs is that although a genius, his barefoot days didn’t add to his creativeness (Read his book!). If anything, I’m sure they caused him sore, calloused feet. So how about being a new-age genius with a kind heart? Guanaco Shoes is the brainchild of native Argentinean designer Maximo Cornet who roped in his pal Manuel Padro to create the a new shoe design, that promises to blow your socks off!

With features like comfort, traction, flexibility, weight, durability, lifespan, resilience, and all around awesomeness, we caught up with the team to know more about the project. It was heartening to learn that Maximo Cornet, who was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2010, did not let his physical setback hamper his quest to design comfortable, trendy and authentic pieces of footwear – ever seen in Argentina.

Essentially, genuine bonds of friendships and community have given birth to this project. The crux of these sock-less shoes is to bring together quality elements and design, and offer the design-conscious community a pair of shoes that is based on the ideas and inspirations drawn from the our community, rather than top-down. The beauty of the design is that it appeals to all ages and across all demographics.

Moms who are looking for practical shoes, shoe-addicts who can always do with another pair, students, the traveler, the camper, the design-advocate, the casual thinker, the luxury seeker, the techie – just about everyone!

Each hand-made shoe also brings an employment opportunity to native Argentineans, where the shoes are manufactured. The authentic Alpargata footwear claim to pamper your feet in a way no other shoe does. Get one, to know one!

Only if you could travel to the fresh, mountainous regions of Cordoba, Argentina to check out the handiwork! Fret not… here are some more details for you…

  • The shoes use Microtech: a new, cushioned, flexible, long-lasting, durable, ultra-light, high quality, rubber-based and environmentally friendly material.
  • Each shoe is made with 30% recycled components and boasts of one of the lightest and most durable materials for shoe soles, and one of the more costly.
  • The soles last 10 times longer than the synthetic rubber-hybrid soles.
  • The insoles are made with PVC Foam, which provides for a well-formed arch and heel.
  • The shoes adopt a traditional cut design that completely eliminates the transversal seam.
  • Each pair of shoes weighs about 300 grams; that’s about ten ounces, or a little over half a pound.
  • The shoes can be folded and stuffed into your back pocket – in case you get into the Steve Jobs-barefoot mood.
  • Sizes For Men, Women and Kids available.

As a Kickstarter Campaign, the shoes hope to bring much joy to your feet as they intend to help the local Argentina team. So to sum it up, a pair of classy shoes with an awesome sole and authentic soul! Get yours here.
