Cleaning the ocean, one sunglass at a time

Let’s file this one too under eye-wear made out of interesting materials. After Shwood’s Cactus Sunglasses come Norton Point’s Ocean Plastic Frames. Each frame follows Norton Point’s philosophy of “One Pound One Pair”, which basically mean that each pair of sunglasses is responsible for cleaning and reusing one pound of the Ocean’s plastic waste.

Creating an ecosystem and a business that’s more about consciously cutting down on plastic waste than about profitability, Norton Point sources their plastic from the wastelands in Haiti, employing hundreds, and incentivizing the waste-collection process. The spectacles/sunglasses are then made from this recycled plastic (although honestly, it looks and feels just like regularly molded virgin plastic). Each piece of eyewear even comes with the GPS coordinates of the place the plastic was sourced from. Now isn’t that just amazing?!
