A little-known fact about Aerogel is that aside from being the world’s lightest solid, it’s also an excellent thermal insulator, and has been used on numerous Mars missions to protect critical components from heat and cold. Fill it in a sleeping bag and suddenly you’ve got yourself the most effective piece of gear for extreme colds. Meet Biigloo, a sleeping bag that uses a single layer of aerogel along with DuPont SORONA bio-fleece to make it the most effective piece of insulated gear in your mountaineering trips or ski-lodge visits. Just 1 millimeter of Aerogel within the Biigloo’s design does what even Gore-Tex can’t, providing insulation even in temperatures as low as -40°F/-40°C.

The Biigloo sleeping bag adopts a mummy-shaped ergonomic design that perfectly wraps you up in its snug-yet-spacious fabric. The ergonomic design features a foot box so you can point your feet up as you sleep, along with a zipper that you can operate on your own. Made using a layer of Aerogel and DuPont Sorona bio-fleece each, sandwiched between two layers of 20D400T Ultra-fine Nylon, the Biigloo is highly water-resistant (up to 10,000mm), making it perfect for the snow, and is 99.8% windproof, thanks to the non-porous Aerogel layer sandwiched on the inside.

Biigloo comes integrated with NASA aerospace insulation technology, the Aerogel.

The Biigloo was made for extreme winters and harsh frigid climates, given its ability to keep the cold out while doing a stellar job of trapping and retaining body heat. Slide in and pull the anti-snag YKK zippers shut, and you instantly feel your body heat reflecting back to you, sort of like with foil or mylar-based outdoor gear. The inside of the sleeping bag has a flexible thermometer strip built-in, so you can measure the temperature inside the bag and compare it to the outdoor temperature. The sleeping bag’s water and windproof nature make it even more effective against the cold, giving explorers, mountaineers, and people in colder climates the ability to stay warm without relying on heaters, fires, and other appliances/techniques.

Your Biigloo comes in a variety of fluorescent colors that make it easy to spot (in case of emergencies). The sleeping bag itself is deceptively light, given that Aerogel is one of the least dense substances on earth, and comes with its own storage bag so you can fold it up and carry it around with you.

While the ultra-fine Nylon is resistant to water, dirt, and stains, you can both machine or hand-wash the Biigloo to keep it fresh. The Biigloo comes in Regular and Long sizes, priced at a remarkable $189 for super early bird backers. Enthusiasts can also grab a rectangular AeroQuilt from the same makers, filled with superfine down, Aerogel, and the DuPont SORONA bio-fleece.
