Looking far from mass produced, Desk 53’s appeal is in the very obvious craftsmanship of its sophisticated, intricate construction – particularly that of the base. The bespoke piece may be contemporary, however, designer Alon Dodo employs traditional, artisan woodworking techniques with every piece hand made in the workshop. Some of these include the manipulation of wood in order to achieve new textures as well as combining various materials such as: leather, copper, brass, iron, korian and marble. He also uses an ancient technique called inlay in which wood is stamped into wood or even other materials with butterfly X-patch connectors. The resulting aesthetic is both organic and purposeful with precision attention to every minute detail.
