Mickey Mehta is one of India’s leading holistic health and fitness coaches and has over 25 years of experience in the wellness industry. He has worked with several leading industrialists and Bollywood celebrities like Priyanka Chopra, Priety Zinta, Bipasha Basu, Lara Dutta, Smriti Irani and Aamir khan for Talash (taught him swimming). Currently training actress Sunny Leone, Mickey’s wellness mantra is simple, “Wellness is in living life in a wholesome way with lots of cleansing and eating right that is combined with deep breathing exercises, stretches and meditation’. He also practises what he preaches, with a fine-tuned diet that gives him enough fuel to train, all day, every day. Curious about what that involves? Here’s Mickey’s daily meal schedule, which keeps him fighting fit and at the top of his game.
Mickey’s Daily Diet
Breakfast
“I am a vegetarian and I enjoy natural, wholesome and seasonal foods. I stay away from alcohol, smoking or processed and ready-to-eat foods,” says Mickey. His morning begins with a glass of warm water followed by a cup of green tea and fresh fruits. “I have a lot of seasonal and fresh vegetable juices like pomegranate juice or apple, carrot and beetroot juice after my workouts at around 11 AM,” he explains.
Mickey spends his mornings completing administrative work, which is followed by his personal workout time.
Lunch
Mickey eats two to three jowar rotis or brown rice (sometimes even regular white rice) with lots of green veggies and a salad of beet, raddish, cabbage, carrot, sprouts and moong dal, which is seasoned lightly. He eats lunch by 2 PM, which keeps him satiated till 5 PM.
Mid-Evening Snack
“In the evenings I have a cup of green tea or other herbal infusions with dry fruits like almonds, cashews, prunes and apricots. Sometimes nachni or jowar-roasted snacks and boiled peanuts are also part of my mid-evening meal,” he shares.
Mickey doesn’t follow a very aggressive workout regime, but, every now and then, he gets a relaxing massage with medicated oils. “Once in six months I do the vamana therapy or therapeutic vomiting of toxins and mucous. The only supplement that I have sometimes are Nutralite multivitamins,” adds Mickey.
Dinner
Mickey prefers eating a light dinner. “I eat by 8 PM. Dinner is usually a bowlful of steamed veggies and soup along with one or two multigrain rotis.” Mickey loves his daily dose of dessert. But even when he indulges, he tries to keep it healthy and eats smaller portions. “I cannot resist dark chocolates and mithais. So I do indulge often but try to keep it healthy with options like rajgira chikki or sesame seed laddoos,” he adds.
Post dinner, Mickey either watches TV or spends time with his family. He usually ends his day by 10 PM. “I like to ensure a good night’s sleep of at least seven to eight hours so that I am refreshed the next day,” he states.
Weekend Indulgence
“I love the dahi-batata puri at Swati Snacks and Saum. I feel Thakkar’s at Kalbadevi, Mumbai serves the world’s best vegetarian meal that I just can’t avoid. So on weekends I allow myself to enjoy these,” he says.
