You love the effect of neat threaded eyebrows but dread the breakouts that would follow later. While eyebrow maintenance is a necessity for most, the awful breakout afterward that makes you want to hide away for a week is definitely less than ideal. It’s true that waxing and threading inevitably open your pores, but you can have the best of both worlds and not have to sacrifice killer arches for acne-free skin. Here is what you need to do to stop that from happening.
1. Wash your face and lightly exfoliate areas that are about to be waxed to make sure that they’re dirt and bacteria-ree. Otherwise, the unwanted bacteria can be pressed into the skin around your eyebrows (or upper lip) and clog your pores.
2. Apply baby powder to your brows or upper lip before the appointment. And make sure you do not apply any kind of moisturiser. The powder will make it easier for the wax to grab your hair, while simultaneously absorbing excess oil and reducing contact irritation.
3. After threading do not touch your face. Avoid poking and feeling your newly hair-free skin. This will only clog pores and transfer the bacteria that’s on your hands on to your face.
4. It’s best to moisturise with oil-free products that are all natural and don’t contain synthetic oils, as they can cause breakouts. Use products with aloe to calm the area and to reduce inflammation and irritation.
5. Another way to avoid clogging freshly opened pores is to work out before (well before) you do damage control on your eyebrows. Sweating excessively can make the skin prone to breakouts.
