Summer is coming! And it’s the ‘gym season’ for all of us. How else are we going to show off our lovely skin in those shorts, flowy summer dresses and bikinis?

However, there’s one major skin dilemma that some of us face especially during summer – body acne. Body acne particularly appears on the back, shoulders and butt. Just like one angry teenager, the body tends to rebel, covering itself in inflamed pimples.

But don’t you worry, you’re not alone! Apparently 80 per cent of us get body acne between the age of 11 and 30, and some even in their late 40s.

According to dermatologists, body acne can stem from a variety of sources. It could be due to excessive sweating, not showering after workouts, friction from workout clothes that are tight, and also irritation from body products or detergent. After getting to know this, all you really want is to learn how to get rid of it.

Body acne

So, to combat those ugly bumps all over, here are three important must-dos that actually work.

Use a cleanser with salicylic acid.
The best way to treat your body acne, especially the back and butt acne, is to use a gentle cleanser with salicylic acid. This helps reduce irritation and keeps the blemishes away.

Say NO to ultra-tight clothes.
That’s the best thing you can alter and see a huge difference immediately. Those bumps will start fading away in few weeks, naturally! Wear easy breathable clothes, and throw some tea tree oil in your bath water. Alternatively, use a tea tree oil shower gel. A shower after a workout is an absolute must.

Take Omega 3 supplements.
Omega 3 really helps you tackle that back acne. Also diet-wise, opt for more stable fats and avoiding the damaged fats.

Exfoliate

Exfoliate gently.
If you are not a fan of exfoliation because of the skin irritation it could cause, remember that facial skin is a lot more delicate than the skin on the rest of your body. Hence, a gentle body scrub can be good. Use any bath pouf sponge or a clean wash cloth.

Avoid steamy hot showers.
A hot water shower can dry out your skin, which in turn causes your body to overproduce oil and end up breaking out, especially on your back and chest. Apply a good moisturiser to your body after a shower.

And lastly, a healthy lifestyle is the foundation of any natural acne combat. Cut down on extra fats, oils, dairy and sugar, and you’re good to go!
