A 10-year-old girl, Ishita Katyal is being applauded for her confidence and conviction. This Pune resident became the youngest Indian speaker at the coveted TED Youth Conference in New York.
Ted X is a platform that helps people share ideas that will motivate and inspire others. Ishita who is in the fifth grade at the Vibgyor High School in Balewadi, delivered a speech titled ‘What do you want to be now’. This is a question often asked to little kids, but Ishita’s speech raised some important points about how children too can make a difference.
This little girl is able to inspire not only her peers but others too. She begins by stating how inspired she was by the TEDx talk that she had attended and how it sparked her curiosity. She then moves on to talk about Maslow’s theory of needs and how the self-esteem and self actualisation needs are left to us as individuals to fulfil.
In an interview with the Indian Express, Ishita’s mom Nancy Katyal describes how nervous she was when she saw her little girl up on the stage.
But Ishita, who is extremely passionate about working with community children to empower them, told the newspaper, “When I finished my speech, I was relieved because it was exactly how I imagined it to be. It was midnight in India, but my friends and relatives called me after the talk to convey their best wishes.”
