Gisele Marie is your average music-loving fan. She listens to metal, plays the guitar and is part of a real band too; all the while wearing a burqa. She continues to follow her passion and interests and is faithful to her religious duties too.
Women behind the burqa are perceived as traditional and conservative, but not Gisele. She’s all set to break these stereotypes, without compromising on any of her religious beliefs.
Marie was brought up a German Catholic, but after her father’s death in 2009, she converted to Islam. She told the a leading English daily, “People do not expect to see a Muslim woman who uses a burqa, practices the religion properly and is a professional guitarist, who plays in a Heavy Metal band, so many people are shocked by it.”
And she’s right, how often do we see a burqa-clad woman playing a guitar in a metal band. You have to watch her to believe it. Here’s a video footage of Gisele Marie breaking barriers.
