A phrase that is probably repeated after every episode of rape, either by the accused or the society she lives in. After the Nirbhaya episode, the issue of ‘consent’ has been brought up over and over again in public forums, debates and news programmes. But very few people seem to have a clear idea of what consent is and what it is like to violate someone without consent. Of course, one reason for people’s inability to grasp the concept is the fact that when it comes to sex and pretty much everything else, the idea of considering women’s consent is anathema to many men. Since many people can’t seem to understand the concept of consent, here’s the concept of rape and consent explained in 7 easy comics by artist Alli Kirkham.
