To do or not to do is always the question for the eternal procrastinator. If you are one of those who loves to put things off a million times before taking the plunge finally, here’s some help. We’ve put down some ways to overcome the habit and get your work done on time. So get up and get going.

Procrastination is simply defined as the habit of putting off tasks to be done to a later date. But not all of us may be procrastinators. After all handling a number of responsibilities amidst humongous work pressure may lead to cultivating a habit of putting less off important work.

While there may be little you can do to get yourself to work on the less pleasurable tasks, we’ve actually got some interesting solutions for you to kill the habit at work.

1. Recognise your passion: There will always be some things you like doing more than the others. You may, in fact, be in the habit of putting off all those assignments that you don’t like until the last minute because just thinking about working on them is stressful. We suggest you do the things you like. And if your work isn’t one of those fun things for you, then may be you need a job switch.

2. Self awareness: Procrastination is of two types. Either the task at hand is too difficult or you are extremely distracted. To overcome both, it is extremely essential to be aware of yourself. Ask yourself how important the task is and what the outcome would be if it is not completed. A self introspection would be helpful in overcoming the habit of putting off.

3. Get away from the distraction: Facebook stalking may be your biggest enemy and if you want to really stop procrastination, you’ve got to block all your distractions. So avoid checking emails, Twitter or even logging on to Facebook when you are sitting down to work. Make it a strictly work affair and hopefully you’ll finish it in time.

4. Just get started: Someone rightly said that the beginning is the most difficult part and this might truly be your biggest evils too. So no matter how hard it is, just start. If you want to write, start writing with a paragraph, line or even a word and other things will follow.

5. Fix a date: Fixing a date to complete the task may work wonders since you’re giving yourself prior intimation. If the task is difficult, break it down into smaller tasks and work on it, a little each day, instead of keeping it all for the last moment.
