“We never know which lives we influence, or when, or why.” This quote by Stephen King holds true for almost everything in life. As a society, we are living on the foundations of influence. We don’t just stop at being influenced by other people but we also spend a good part of our lives worrying about what people think of us. It is only fair then that we take our influences and let only those, who have the magic to enchant an entire generation, dictate the culture. And that is precisely why we loved it when Arundhati Roy, justifiably , takes the title of being the world’s sixth most important thinker.

Voted by the readers of Prospect magazine, the Man Booker prize-winning Indian author of The God of Small Things has written widely on the status of women in the Indian society, rightly balanced with a dose of our corrupt culture.

Another woman who made it to the list, dominated by 8 other men, is Canada’s author, Naomi Klein. The social activist and filmmaker is known for her political analyses and criticism of corporate globalisation and capitalism. Her book, No Logo, is an international bestseller and her documentary about Argentina’s occupied factories, The Take, also got her international acclaim.
